Cooperation becomes a competitive advantage

There has been a lot of talk about “leadership excellence” in recent years. Very little of “collaborative excellence.” We are convinced that cooperation becomes a competitive factor when it comes to solving complex problems, responding very quickly to customer requirements and shaping innovation. That is why we must apply the same standards of excellence to cooperation as we do to leadership.

Factors can be identified that can be shaped and learned by each individual in order to improve the quality of cooperation in their own environment. In two studies with 80 and 100 subjects, respectively, we were able to show that three factors are particularly relevant:

1. empathy (empathy, willingness and ability to change perspective).
2. the willingness to give (to give in advance, unselfishness)
3. targeted and context-related support (help for self-help)

We have made these factors measurable in a test system. Give-and-take evaluation (GTE) provides concrete starting points for developing an organizational culture focused on collaboration.
